Austin County voters to finalize seven races

After 994 Austin County early voters cast their ballots in five of the seven contested races in the General Election, the rest of eligible voters were to finalize the races on Saturday’s Election Day.

Candidates were vying for seats on city councils in Sealy, San Felipe, Wallis and Bellville as well as school boards in Sealy and Bellville. Also, a tax rate proposition for Austin County Emergency Services District No. 1 was on the ballot for voters in the district that covers the Frydek, Brazos Country, San Felipe areas to determine whether or not to authorize a maximum ad valorem tax rate of ten cents on each $100 of taxable value of property.

May 1 voting breakdown – W.E. Hill Community Center, Sealy

According to data posted at the Hill Center, 505 Sealy-area voters cast a ballot in the city council and school board races when the polls were open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Early voting breakdown – Austin County, May 1 General Election

In seven days of early voting across five 9-hour days and two 12-hour days, the Sealy School Board race received the highest number of early votes with 338. Voters for that race set the one-day high with 122 ballots cast the last day the polls were open for 12 hours, April 27. On the same day, the Sealy City Council race saw 78 early votes to serve as the one-day high.

Austin County residents in ESD No. 1 cast the most ballots for the tax rate proposition on the penultimate day of early voting (35 votes on April 26) and also cast seven ballots Saturday, April 24, and had three mail-in ballots.

Residents voting in the Bellville City Council and School Board races also registered a one-day high on April 26 with 37 and 21 votes for each respective race.
