John David Dixon was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 25, after an investigation into the April 2021 death of Wallis-area resident Yvonne Zavala, according to a Feb. 4 press release from the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office (FBCSO).

The FBCSO statement explained their Robbery-Homicide Unit, in partnership with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, launched the investigation that eventually lead to Dixon's arrest without incident in Wallis roughly 10 months after Zavala’s death at their shared residence in the 7600 block of Lana Ln.

Dixon was charged with offenses of both murder and possession of controlled substance and remains behind bars at the Fort Bend County Jail, last Friday’s release stated. Dixon’s bail bond was set at $300,000 and $5,000 for these respective charges, it said.

“Through a joint effort between our investigators and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, we are catching some very dangerous criminals,” Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan said in the release. “Serious crimes require serious collaboration, and we will work around the clock to rid our streets of violent offenders.”

Zavala's death occurred at a residence with a Wallis address near the Fort Bend-Austin County border. Wallis Police Chief David Moseley explained Monday, Feb. 7, that the incident occurred outside of Wallis in Fort Bend County and the arrest was outside of the city in Austin County.
