The Coastal Plains District, part of the Sam Houston Area Council for Boy Scouts of America, hosted its much-anticipated annual Rocket Day on Oct. 21. The event, which took place at Mayorga’s Ranch in Orchard, saw a successful turnout, including over 70 Cub Scouts launching their rockets skyward.

The event welcomed young Scouts to the exciting world of rocketry, offering an engaging way to connect with science, technology, engineering and mathematics. “The laughter of the children, the awe in their eyes as they tracked their rockets —  these moments encapsulate the spirit of Scouting,” said Dr. Gregg Stephens, Coastal Plains District Advancement Chair. “We witnessed more than just rockets taking flight; we saw confidence and curiosity soaring to new heights.” Scouts in kindergarten through fifth grade and their families participated in hands-on activities, emphasizing the Scouting spirit of learning and adventure. The Sam Houston Area Council proudly supports such initiatives, providing young individuals opportunities to explore, learn and grow.

Those interested in joining the adventure with the Cub Scouts can visit the Sam Houston Area Council’s website at www.shac.org/join. The Council offers a comprehensive program for youth development, focusing on building character, outdoor skills and community service.

The Coastal Plains District covers the scouting units in the following school districts: Bay City, Boling, Brazos, East Bernard, El Campo, Fort Bend, Lamar Consolidated, Louise, Matagorda, Needville, Palacios, Tidehaven, Van Vleck, Weimar and Wharton in Austin and Fort Bend, Matagorda and Wharton counties.
