At the beginning of the week, the Department of State Health Services had a record of 31 active cases of COVID-19 in Austin County, three fewer than last week, and 1,745 total confirmed cases, 15 more than last week. No COVID-19-related fatalities have been reported since March 22.

County Judge Tim Lapham said in his Monday update that vaccine rates in the county were also trending in the right direction.

“(DSHS) shows Austin County with 77.5% of those 65+ with at least one dose and 56.95% of 65+ fully vaccinated. 46.42% of those 16+ with at least one dose and 46.42% 16+ fully vaccinated,” Lapham said.

He also said Bellville Medical Center and the Sealy Walgreens both reported having the twodose Moderna vaccine available.

“With pollen counts high and other illnesses going around, it’s more important than ever to stay home if you don’t feel good,” Lapham added. “As always, stay safe out there.”
