Austin County assists task force with drug bust

               On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at approximately 5 a.m., members of the Austin County Special Response Team (SRT) executed a search warrant and arrest warrants at the Prairie View Inn located at 21893 FM 1098, in Prairie View. The operation was the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation by the Westside (HIDTA) Narcotics Task Force.

                Task Force officers had been investigating reports of narcotics being distributed from the motel. Suspect Michael Jenkins Brown, age 39, was arrested without incident. A search of the motel room where the defendant was arrested resulted in the seizure of crystal methamphetamine, heroin, xanax, marijuana, and money. Charges filed on the defendant include felony warrants for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, additional charges of Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Tampering with Evidence.

                The Westside Narcotics Task Force covers four counties and is comprised of investigators from the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville Police Department, Sealy Police Department, Hempstead Police Department, Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Waller County District Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation. The Waller County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Units and Prairie View Police Department assisted with the warrant operation.
