Miss Brittany Guardia’s 4th Grade social studies classes recently participated in “field trip in a box” activities for their Ag in the Classroom unit at Faith Academy of Bellville.

This unit included “cotton’s journey,” from the field to the store, and highlighted not only the growth and harvesting processes but also the various uses for cotton fiber, cotton seeds and cottonseed oil. The students were able to pick their own cotton from dried cotton bolls, separate cotton lint from the seeds and examine different types of cotton lint using hand lenses. The students also learned how important the cotton industry is to the economy of Texas.

This was a fun learning experience made possible for Faith Academy students because of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office. Miss Guardia has participated in the summer Ag in the Classroom teacher trainings provided by the AgriLife office in College Station and was excited to share this information with her students.
