Sealy ISD special education students brought down the house at the junior high last Tuesday night, Nov. 16, at the Chance to Dance Holiday Recital.

Students in grades K-12 involved in the Chance to Dance program that rehearsed every Tuesday evening in the Dance Room at Sealy Junior High danced and sang to songs to help spread holiday cheer and execute all the hard work they put in. “As always, they did one step above and

“As always, they did one step above and beyond what they did last time and are always striving for excellence,” Special Education Director Shae Whatley said. “It’s super fun to have everyone in there after school, organizing and putting ideas on paper and getting everything together. It’s a lot of choreography and a lot of movement and action.”

Whatley said one of her favorite performances of the night came during the grand finale but it was the camaraderie across all of the levels that served as her top highlight.

“Feliz Navidad when they have the sign language, that’s always amazing,” Whatley said. “This year, they did lots of the rings, the kids made all of the decorations so it was really allin. They had a holiday feast today so all the kids came and set up the stage so it was a collaborative effort between all the teachers and campuses. It was really neat to see everyone working together.”

Moving into the new year, Whatley mentioned another spring show was on the horizon and looked forward to taking another step.

“We’re going to incorporate more musical instruments next spring so as soon as we get that finalized, we’ll get the dates,” she said. “There’s some high school students that want to collaborate between all the groups, some kids from band have already reached out to the group so it’ll be more dancing and more noisy next time. Every year we’re building.”
