Independence Day was celebrated through the rain around Austin County over the weekend with a 190th birthday and plenty of fireworks.

The City of Industry – Texas’ oldest permanent German settlement – celebrated 190 years since its founding with a party in the park on Main Street Saturday, July 3. Woodrow’s Hillbillies BBQ supplied the food while dominos and bingo accompanied the craft show. Although the rain washed away some of the other events during the day, it dried out with enough time for the fireworks display courtesy of Bellville High School alumnus Lucas Whidden and Texas Pyroworks.

Sunday, July 4, locals came out in droves to Christian City Fellowship in Sealy for Family, Faith and Fireworks. Similar to Saturday, rainstorms returned Sunday but they did not last late enough into the night to impede the fireworks display either. Texas Pyroworks was responsible for the show Sunday night as well and for both performances, the explosions were synched up to music for all to enjoy.

Before the fireworks, Josh Strzelecki provided live music while children of all ages indulged in bomb pops, watermelon slices and games. Food trucks were also on site to serve attendees.

CCF Pastor Rusty Griffin said most all of the church’s parking spots were taken and even more auxiliary parking would have been available had it not been for the rain earlier in the day. Still, he estimated a couple thousand residents attended the festivities.
