Sealy City Councilmember Place 3/Mayor Pro Tem Sandra Vrablec stepped down from her council seat to accept the position of City of Sealy Planner at the council’s Aug. 3 regular meeting at the W. E. Hill Community Center.

Vrablec will no longer participate in council meetings and her seat will remain open until the November election.

After she applied and was hired by the city, Vrablec resigned from the council because it was considered a conflict of interest. Sealy City Manager Warren Escovy - who formerly served as the city’s director of planning - advocated for Vrablec’s hire according to Mayor Carolyn Bilski.

“Pleased that it is someone that lives in Sealy and loves the area. She is well qualified for the position,” Bilski said in a follow-up interview.

The council will host a special meeting Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 5:30 p.m. to officially announce the new hire. Vrablec’s term as Director of Planning and Community Development will begin Sept. 1.
