Active cases on the rise

Entering this week, the Department of State Health Services had record of 191 active cases of COVID-19 in Austin County, a 39-case increase from the previous week. Three more fatalities were also added to the totals and as of Monday, there had been 44 COVID-related deaths in Austin County.

I-10 to close tonight

According to information from Sealy Police Department, Interstate 10 mainlaines are scheduled for closure tonight, Thursday, Sept. 1, at 7:00 p.m., until Friday, Sept. 2, at 5:00 a.m. between Chew and Mlcak Roads.

The purpose of the closure is to remove the Mlcak overpass bridge spanning over IH10.

Volunteers needed to recreate history

The San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site recently welcomed a Ramage style recreated printing press to its new permanent home at the log cabin Texas Gazette printing office in the Villa de Austin. Builder and collector John Horn donated the wooden printing press from his personal collection after years of persistent communication from Michael Moore, the Contracted Construction Manager for the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission.
