Earth Day is Friday, April 22. It is the same date every year and is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world, engaging more than 1 billion people every year, according to earthday.org.

Locals poured into B&PW Park Sunday, April 10, for the 10th annual Easter Eggstravaganza hosted by the First United Methodist Church Sealy. Attendees competed in easter egg hunts, enjoyed pony rides and bounce houses and took the opportunity to take pictures with the easter bunny.

Rae Drady joined The Sealy News as its newest government and community reporter April 6. She attended San Antonio College and worked in community newspapers in the same area.

Faith Academy of Bellville first graders participated in a Reader’s Restaurant called The Knight’s Café Wednesday, March 30. The Café was set up in the Event Center with black tablecloths and milk glass vases with fresh flowers.

Powerful Touch Massage held its ribbon cutting event last Friday, April 8, at 326 North Circle Drive in celebration of joining the Sealy Chamber of Commerce. Owner Jen Lopez has been working out of her home office but recently opened a storefront and will offer massages by appointment only in the evenings to start. Wow! Walk Across Texas has officially concluded at Bellville and Brazos Independent School Districts. At the end of Week 8, 61,153 miles were racked up by the students and their families.

Angela Mlcak of Sealy, Texas, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective alldiscipline collegiate honor society. Mlcak was initiated at University of Houston-Victoria.

Wednesday afternoon, Sealy ISD announced the passing of a Sealy High School student.

SISD Superintendent Bryan Hallmark confirmed Thursday morning an off-campus incident resulted in the death of a student.

Sealy FFA Judging teams competed in the Area XI CDE and five groups earned top finishes to become state qualifiers. Livestock Judging, Horse Judging and Floricultural teams all finished second in their disciplines, the Meat Judging team earned third and the Milk Quality Products squad took fourth place. The Nursery and Landscape team also competed and fell just shy of a state qualification with a sixth-place finish.

Thursday, April 14, Christians around the world will begin Holy Week with the celebration of Maundy Thursday services. Bellville United Methodist Church (234 South Masonic) will mark this holy day with the presentation of The Living Last Supper.
