For the first time ever, the Brazos Middle School 7th Grade Band competed at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest by themselves.

The 7th Grade Band received, “Excellent,” ratings from the judges both on stage and in the sightreading room.

A great accomplishment for their very first UIL competition.

Then this afternoon, the Mighty Cougar Band performed and earned a “Superior,” rating on stage and an “Excellent,” rating in sightreading.

Brazos golf takes second at Rice tourney

Brazos honored its two seniors on the boys’ basketball team during a ceremony last week. Javien Dickerson and Trey Gaston were honored for their play on the varsity team and leaving a legacy with the basketball program.

The Brazos Cougars and Cougarettes competed at the Ganado Powerlifting Meet last week with the girls finishing third and the boys squad finishing in first place. Brazos had 11 Cougars and six Cougarettes medal individually during the meet.

The Brazos powerlifting boys team captured a second-place finish and the girls brought home a seventh-place finish from the powerlifting meet at Bay City Jan. 13.

The Brazos Cougars have started 24-3A play with a 2-3 record in district action. Last Friday, Brazos rolled over Harmony 105-52 on the road.

The first part of 2023 in the Austin County sports scene saw playoff runs by teams in basketball soccer and baseball and ended with Sealy Head Football Coach Shane Mobley announcing he was leaving the program for a position in Peaster.

Three members of the Brazos Cougar football team were honored to be placed on the THSCA Academic All State teams. This is considered a big honor that the Texas High School Coach Association places on players recognizing their talent on the field and hardwork in the classroom as well. First team honoree was Colton Richardson (54) and honorable mention honorees included Trey Gaston (4) and Jenson Miles (3).

The Brazos Cougars cross country team competed in the 2023 UIL Region III Cross Country Meet on Monday in Huntsville at Kate Barr Ross Park. In the 3A girls 2-mile race, the varsity girls team placed 19th with 499 points.
